- No, we are part of BSA, Boy Scouts of America, which offers programming for boys and girls from ages 5 to 21?
- Do I have to be Orthodox to Join?
- No. Generally our Scout programs are about one third from Orthodox affiliated homes, and two thirds from other Jewish families. While higher than the national percentages, we serve Jews from all backgrounds that want to participate in Scouting.
- Is it Kosher? Is the food catered?
- Yes it is kosher, no it is not catered. Our Scout kitchens live in the trailer that the Scouts bought from fundraising and titled to Young Israel. All food is prepared at the campsite by the Scouts (Scouts BSA) or Parents and Scouts (Cub Scouts).
- What is the Uniform?
- Because of climate (Florida is hot) and the religious nature of our Unit, there are slight modifications to the official BSA uniform. The Uniform largely consists of a BSA Uniform Shirt for the appropriate program, an appropriate Belt, and appropriate bottoms for the age and gender. Cub Scout boys wear "school uniform" blue pants. Adult men and Scout boys wear drab olive pants. Cub Scout girls wear blue or khaki skorts. Adult women and Scout girls wear khaki or drab olive skorts. Our full Uniform Guidelines are downloadable.
